The Saratoga living room set, designed by Massimo and Lella Vignella and produced by Poltronova, Italy, in the 1960s, is an iconic example of modular and modern design.
The set includes a four-seat sofa, a two-seat sofa, two armchairs, a coffee table, a chest of drawers, and an illuminated bar cabinet, all part of the Saratoga collection, perfectly embodying the Vignelli’s innovative vision.
The sofas, featuring a white lacquered wooden frame and cognac leather cushions, stand out for their timeless elegance and functionality.
The coffee table and cabinet are also made of white lacquered wood, creating a visual harmony with the other pieces.
“Saratoga” represents one of the first examples of modular living design from the 20th century, created to adapt to the dynamic needs of everyday life. As the designers explain: “We designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa we wanted was one with architectural character rather than a soft and smooth object. A sofa that could be placed in the center of the room. We didn’t want it pushed against the walls; we wanted it to move according to the needs.”
